The country’s daily count of COVID-19 cases recorded a decline on Saturday — with 267 cases in nine states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
Saturday’s figure is a 24.1 percent decrease over the past 24 hours — 352 new cases were confirmed on Friday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) published the new cases in its update for January 15, 2022.
The agency, however, noted that the Saturday report included a backlog of infections from Delta and Ekiti states.
Delta was top of the list with 160 new cases, followed by Osun with 27 fresh infections, and the FCT with 22.
Other states that recorded new infections include Gombe (17), Cross River (16), Enugu (13), Rivers (6), Ekiti (4), Kaduna (1), and Kano (1).
According to the figures published by the NCDC, Lagos, the epicentre of the pandemic, did not record any new case within the past 24 hours.
But with 97,546 cases, the state still sits at the top of the list with the highest number of confirmed infections.
Three persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday, bringing the country’s fatality toll to 3,095.
The death toll recorded on Saturday contains a backlog of two fatalities from Osun state.
Meanwhile, 270 patients were discharged after recovering from the infection on Saturday.
A total of 250,628 infections have now been confirmed across the country — out of which 223,765 persons have been discharged, and 23,768 are currently active cases.
