The meeting between officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the scarcity of naira notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that INEC has raised concerns that the scarcity of the new naira notes may disrupt the forthcoming elections. The newspaper says residents in Ogun, Ondo, and Edo states took protests to banks to demand cash amid naira notes scarcity.


Daily Trust reports that President Muhammadu Buhari convened an emergency meeting of the council of state to discuss the current national crises, including petrol and naira scarcity. The newspaper says the lingering petrol scarcity has disrupted essential services across the country.


THISDAY reports the presidential campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that the hoarding of the new naira notes by Bola Tinubu, APC flagbearer, is causing Nigerians pains. The newspaper says Sadiya Umar Farouq, minister of humanitarian affairs, said the number of Nigerians living below the poverty line has improved to between 45- 48 percent.


The Nation says the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has apologised to Nigerians for the pains the nationwide petrol scarcity has caused in the past three months. The newspaper reports that Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to remain calm as the government and relevant agencies continued to find solutions to the fuel and cash crunch.


Daily Sun says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has reapproved a stadium for the presidential campaign of the PDP in the state after the initial approval was revoked. The newspaper reports that Goodwin Emefiele, the governor of CBN, said the apex bank would not be used to scuttle the forthcoming polls.
