The withdrawal of allies of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, from the presidential campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the PDP has convened an emergency meeting over the withdrawal of the allies of Wike from the party’s presidential campaign council. The newspaper says the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will appeal against the ruling of the national industrial court on the suspension of strike.

The Nation says Chris Ngige, minister of labour, said the ruling of the industrial court will not stop negotiation with ASUU. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) said 95.4million litres or 600,000 barrels of crude oil are being stolen daily.

THISDAY reports that President Muhammadu Buhari recommitted to free, fair and transparent 2023 elections during his last address at the United Nations general assembly (UNGA77).
