Newspaper Headlines: Aviation fuel hits N840/litre as airlines predict flight delays

Reports on the presidential election tribunal and recirculation of the old naira notes dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the move by some banks to recirculate old N500 and N1,000 notes suffered a setback as motorists and traders rejected the old currencies. The newspaper says oil marketers said the scarcity of petrol in Abuja and other northern states could persist till after Saturday’s governorship elections.

The Nation says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the reset of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) machines must be done before Saturday’s governorship and state assemblies elections can be held. The newspaper reports that some banks have continued the payment of the old naira notes to their customers.

Daily Trust reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said it did not direct banks to disburse old naira notes. The newspaper says governors who are seeking re-election are in a last-minute push to woo voters with incentives ahead of Saturday’s governorship and state assemblies elections.

The Guardian reports that Bola Tinubu, president-elect, has approached the presidential election tribunal for an order to access sensitive materials used by INEC for the conduct of the February 25 presidential election. The newspaper says in commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD), President Muhammadu Buhari has joined Nigerian women in celebrating and recognising the invaluable role women have played in advancing the progress of the country since Independence.

Daily Independent says the opposition political parties have asked the court not to allow INEC to tamper with the BVAS. The newspaper reports that the Labour Party (LP) has dissolved members of its executive in Rivers state over alleged anti-party affairs.
