The comments made by Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, on the removal of Mai Mala Buni as the caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that el-Rufai said 19 of his colleagues in the APC endorsed the removal of Buni as the party’s caretaker chairman. The newspaper says the senate has rejected a bill by President Muhammadu Buhari seeking to amend the Electoral Act, 2022.


The Punch reports that el-Rufai said Buni’s lawyers colluded with a petitioner to procure a judgement stopping the APC convention. The newspaper says 16 security agents were killed as bandits attacked the convoy of Samaila Yombe Dabi, the deputy governor of Kebbi state.


Daily Trust reports that Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, and other political appointees rumoured to have ambitions in 2023 are in a tight corner over clause 84 (12 ) of the electoral act. The newspaper reports that Nigerian students in Russia say the sanctions on the country are taking a toll on them.
