Newspaper Headlines: FG raises petrol supply to prevent price hike

Reports of the conduct of Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that governorship and state houses of assembly candidates and their supporters were in anxious wait for the results of Saturday’s elections. Dele Alake, the media adviser to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, said the cabinet of Bola Tinubu, President-elect, will be ready 30 days after the inauguration, the newspaper says.

Daily Trust says massive vote-buying was recorded in Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections across the country. The newspaper reports that travellers and stakeholders raised the alarm over the reduction in the amount of dollars for personal travel allowance (PTA) and business travel allowance (BTA).

The Nation reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Seyi Makinde of Oyo were coasting to victory as results of the governorship elections in various polling units were being announced. The newspaper says Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed elections in 10 polling units in Lagos, Rivers LG, and Plateau ward.

The Guardian reports that violence and voter intimidation marred Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections in Nigeria. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied a news report that the party has zoned the senate presidency to the north-west.

Daily Independent reports that Nura Khali, the governorship candidate of the (New Nigeria Political Party) NNPP in Katsina, escaped being kidnapped by the bandits who blocked his route while going to his hometown, Kandawa, in Bakori LGA.
