The presentation of a N3 trillion bill by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to fund petrol subsidy in 2020 dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that the federal government said it will cost N3 trillion to fund petrol subsidy in 2022 at N270 billion per month. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the direct primary to elect its governorship candidate.


The Punch reports that governors and the organised labour are doubting the country’s fuel consumption figure stated by the NNPC. Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said an overwhelming majority of Igbo do not believe in secession, the newspaper says.


Daily Independent says the federal government will increase borrowing to fund the N3 trillion petrol subsidy bill for 2022. The newspaper reports that the house of representatives is seeking the creation of 111 additional seats in the national assembly for women.


The Guardian reports that a house of representatives committee has rejected the bill seeking immunity for presiding officers of the national assembly and judicial officers. The newspaper says Bisi Kolawole, the preferred candidate of Ayo Fayose, former Ekiti governor, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


The Nigerian Tribune says the Rivers government defeated the federal government as the ourt barred direct funding of police from the federation account. The newspaper says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the zoning list in circulation.
