Reports on the planned disbursement of N180 billion to states as petrol subsidy palliatives, dominate the front pages of the dailies today.

The Punch reports that organised labour has criticised the federal government for releasing a N180bn palliative package to states to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. The newspaper says the documentation on the newly-appointed ministers will commence on Saturday.

The Nation reports that Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been charged with fraud, abuse of office, among others. The newspaper says the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has cleared Tobi Amusan of an anti-doping rule violation.

Nigerian Tribune reports the defence headquarters as saying that no fewer than three officers and 22 soldiers were killed during the ambush on troops in Niger state. The newspaper says the World Bank has asked the federal government not to backtrack on the removal of petrol subsidy.

Daily Trust says officials of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have said that troops are ready to participate in a standby force that could intervene in the Niger Republic crisis. The newspaper reports that bribery allegation in the Kano election petition tribunal is stirring controversy in the state.
