The warning against the disruption of the May 29 inauguration, the resident doctors’ warning strike, and the detention of Seun Kuti over the assault of a police officer dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the military and Usman Baba, inspector-general of police, have read the riot act to individuals and groups opposed to the inauguration of Bola Tinubu, president-elect, on May 29. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day warning strike following the failure of the federal government to meet its demands.


The Nation reports that the federal government disclosed that Nigeria spent over N13 trillion on payment of petrol subsidy between 2005 and 2021. The newspaper says data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that the country’s inflation rate rose to 22.22 percent in April 2023.

The newspaper says Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, has asked Buhari to cancel the study leave allegedly granted to Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
