The directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to Adamu Adamu, minister of education, to end the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in two weeks dominated the headlines of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nation reports that Buhari has directed Chris Ngige, minister of labour, not to interfere in the negotiations with ASUU. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said 57.07 percent of electricity consumers in the country are still on estimated billing.


The Punch says Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun, may engage at least 50 lawyers to challenge the victory of Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s governorship election. The newspaper says the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to increase the benchmark interest rate to 14 percent has sparked outrage.


Daily Trust reports that Buhari has asked the minister of education to end the ASUU strike within two weeks. The newspaper says the naira is now N630 to a dollar at the parallel market.

Daily Sun says Enoch Adeboye, general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has denied endorsing Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for president. Aminu Masari, governor of Katsina, said the federal government and security agencies have failed to secure the lives and property of Nigerians, the newspaper reports.
