Newspaper Headlines: PDP mulls expulsion of G5 governors as they meet Tinubu in UK

Reports on the move to expel the five aggrieved governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appeared on the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the five aggrieved governors of PDP have met with Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in London, the United Kingdom. The newspaper says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said the continuous rise in inflation and the devaluation of naira must be checked before the increase in salary of workers.

The Nation says the aggrieved PDP governors have foreclosed any support for Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, in the 2023 elections. The newspaper reports that George Obiozor, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, is dead.

Daily Trust reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun the sale of 160 houses and lands worth billions of naira spread in highbrow areas in Lagos, Abuja and 14 other states. The newspaper says the house of representatives has criticised Emmanuel Osodeke, president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), over the comment that the union was deceived by Femi Gbajabiamila into calling off their eight-month old strike.

The Guardian reports that there was uproar at the upper chamber, yesterday, after some senators kicked against the request of President Muhammadu Buhari to legitimise N23.7 trillion already spent by the federal government without approval by the national assembly.

THISDAY reports that the national assembly has passed the 2023 budget and increased the proposed spending to N21.82 trillion. The newspaper says the PDP is considering expelling five aggrieved governors of the party, dubbed as “G5”, if they go ahead to endorse any presidential candidate other than Atiku Abubakar.
