Reports on the petitions filed in court against the February 25 presidential election, principal officers of the national assembly, and the economy, dominate the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that state governments have directed residents living around flood plains and erosion spots to vacate these danger zones before it is too late. The newspaper says the house of representatives has resolved to investigate the alleged forgery of the UTME result by Ejikeme Mmesoma.


 

The Nation reports that there is no respite yet for electricity consumers, with distribution companies (DisCos) still pushing ahead with their bid for federal government’s approval to raise tariffs. The newspaper says the presidential election petition tribunal heard the petition of President Bola Tinubu that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, was not a member of the party when nominated.


 

The Guardian reports that Nigerians have begun to feel the inflationary impact of floating of the naira and removal of petrol subsidy as prices of essential drugs and cost of care in the health sector have skyrocketed. The newspaper says there has been an outcry over the withdrawal of about N150 million from the June salaries of officers of the Nigeria Police Force nationwide.


Daily Trust reports that Tinubu met with Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, and Iyiola Omisore, secretary of the party, at the presidential villa over the issue of principal officers of the national assembly. The newspaper says the Kwara government has announced the reversal of the directive reducing workdays from five to three for civil servants in the state.


THISDAY reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in disarray as it failed to assert any form of control or influence in the choice of the minority leadership of the national assembly. The newspaper says Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and the APC have closed their cases against the petitions filed by Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the election tribunal.
