Newspaper Headlines: Pro-G5 reps plot to scuttle PDP plans on house leadership

The response of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the petitions filed against the February 25 presidential election dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.
The Punch says the INEC has informed the presidential election petitions tribunal that Bola Tinubu, president-elect, was properly declared winner of the February 25 election. The newspaper reports that the national assembly has passed a bill which prohibits ponzi/pyramid schemes as well as other illegal investment schemes and prescribes jail term of not less than 10 years for promoters of such schemes.
The Nation says INEC has told the tribunal that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of PDP, did not meet the requirements to win the February 25 election. The newspaper says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has kicked against the moves by PDP and other opposition parties to install the presiding officers of the 10th national assembly.
THISDAY reports that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to maintain tight monetary policy to check inflation. The newspaper says Chimamanda Adichie, Nigerian novelist, said President Muhammadu Buhari, and Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, blew the chance to emerge the new heroes of Nigeria’s fledgling democracy with the conduct of the 2023 elections.
Daily Trust reports that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and Coalition of Arewa Elders have criticised Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, over a leaked audio call allegedly involving him and David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners Chapel. The newspaper says the house of representatives has summoned Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, over alleged $2.4 billion oil revenue scam.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the APC has explained why Tinubu forfeited $460,000 to the United States government in a forfeiture case, which involved an alleged drug link in 1993. The newspaper says Buhari has approved free zone status for Ekiti Knowledge Zone.
