The federal government’s 2023 budget proposal and the declaration of indefinite strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says the federal government is proposing an estimated budget of N19.76 trillion in 2023 with the deficit between N11.30 trillion and N12.41 trillion. The newspaper reports that the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) said six out of 10 doctors in Nigeria plan to leave the country.


The Nation says the move to reconcile Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has witnessed a setback. The newspaper reports the court has declined the federal government’s request to extradite Abba Kyari, suspended deputy commissioner of police, to the US.


Daily Trust says ASUU has declared a “comprehensive and indefinite” strike. The newspaper reports that traders at Kantin Kwari market in Kano are counting their losses owing to the flooding that occured in the area.


The Guardian says bandit attacks in some LGAs of Niger state have forced magistrates to relocate their courts to the high court complex in Minna, the state capital. The newspaper reports that the federal government may borrow N11 trillion to fund the 2023 budget.


Nigerian Tribune reports that Wike said he will soon expose politicians who are planning to continue looting the country’s resources. The newspaper says the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) said over 40 million Nigerians are yet to receive COVID-19 vaccines.
