Reports on the planned hike in electricity tariff on July 1 dominate the cover pages of the dailies today.

The Punch reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate in the last elections, are on a collision course with the G5 group over the minority leadership in the national assembly, particularly the senate. The newspaper says President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to arrive in the country from London today ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations.

Daily Trust reports that chief executive officers of some federal government departments and agencies are living in fear of being sacked since the dissolution of their boards. The newspaper says Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, has ordered the state’s accountant-general to stop the salaries of 10,800 workers believed to have been employed by the previous administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.

Vanguard reports that there are strong indications that the average price of petrol will rise further as marketers benchmark costs against rising foreign exchange rates. The newspaper says Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA), has promised to subdue the rising insecurity in the country.

The Guardian reports that Muslim faithful in Nigeria have expressed displeasure at the rising prices of goods and services ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations. The newspaper says electricity distribution companies have hinted that tariff could increase to about N300 per kilowatt in July.

Daily Independent reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned against the plan by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to increase electricity tariff by 40 percent by July 1, 2023. The newspaper says Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has denied the alleged plan to grant state pardon to Rahmon Adedoyin, the owner of Hilton Honours hotel, Ile-Ife.
